Tragically, a contract worker at the Alcoa World Alumina manufacturing plant in Point Comfort was killed on November 19 following an industrial accident.
According to the Associated Press, the victim was a 42-year-old male contract supervisor. A door that was being installed on a tank by a crane reportedly hit him. The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident.
Unfortunately, this man’s death came after another workplace accident killed four workers and injured another at a DuPont plant in La Porte on November 15. The Chemical Safety & Hazard Investigation Board (CSB), which is investigating the accident, said that it was caused by an apparent chemical leak.
The DuPont facility reportedly uses methyl mercaptan to manufacture insecticides and fungicides. Family members of the victims have already filed wrongful death lawsuits.
