If you plan to serve alcohol at your Thanksgiving functions this year, make sure that you have a designated driver or sober rides available for guests.
Last year, USA Today reported that the number of vehicle accidents increase around the holidays, particularly on Thanksgiving eve (the day before the holiday).
According to the newspaper, using information provided by Progressive Insurance, between the hours of 8 p.m. and 3 a.m., there was a 24 percent increase in accidents involving parking or rear-enders, a 17 percent increase involving general collisions and a 14 percent increase in claims involving vehicles that ran into buildings or other private property on Thanksgiving eve.
The newspaper indicated that this occurred because of a mixture of traffic, bad weather and drunk driving.
Keep in mind, if you serve your guests alcohol at a holiday party and they are involved in an accident that hurts or kills another person, your role in the crash could be investigated.
Should I Speak to an Attorney if a Drunk Driver Hits Me?
Aside from death, drunk driving accidents can result in serious personal injuries like broken bones, spinal cord injuries and brain injuries. Do not hurt someone because you have had too much to drink.
Plan to have a designated driver available or use alternative forms of transportation. In many Central Texas cities there are options like public transportation and taxis available to drivers who have had too much to drink.
If a drunk driver hurts you, you can hold him or her liable through a lawsuit. Call us today and let us investigate your case—you should not have to suffer because you enjoy riding a bicycle.
