According to KTRK-TV, Texas drivers rank among the worst in the country when it comes to aggressive holiday driving.
The news outlet reported that Texas consumer driving habits have been 175 percent more aggressive this time of year than periods that fall outside of the holidays (Thanksgiving-New Year’s Day).
The data used by KTRK was compiled by GasBuddy, examining drivers in each state, and Washington D.C., during the holiday season.
GasBuddy has an application that compiles driver data and provides assessments of their driving habits during trips in an effort to improve fuel efficiency, and mapping out when and where a poor driving habit occurred.
This year, aggressive driving has been bad in Texas, as the state ranks only behind Georgia and California for the average number of aggressive incidents occurring.
According to GasBuddy, so far this year, the average driver monitored in Texas has had 10.3 aggressive incidents that have occurred since November 21. This ranks behind Georgia (11.6 incidents) and California (11.3 incidents).
GasBuddy says the data is composed of the habits of tens of millions of drivers. Aggressive driving can include incidents of frequent or unsafe lane changes, failing to signal or yield the right of way, tailgating and disregarding traffic controls.
Stay Safe on the Roads this Holiday Season
Remember, if you cause a vehicle accident that leads to injuries or death, you could be held liable. With this in mind, the Texas Department of Transportation often reminds drivers how to stay safe during holiday travel.
According to TxDOT, you may be able to better avoid an accident by doing the following:
- Reducing speeds
- Maintaining at least three times the normal following distance on snow or ice (avoid tailgating)
- Using extra caution on bridges, ramps, overpasses and shaded areas as the freeze over faster
Happy a safe holiday and a Happy New Year!
