The recalls have been going on for the past five years, with the latest recalls affecting Toyota, Lexus and Ford models. At least 23 people worldwide have died in incidents blamed on the defective devices, according to USA Today.

Owners of vehicles impacted by the recalls should receive notifications by mail over the upcoming months. However, if you move or would like to check prior to receiving notice, you can visit manufacturer websites.

The latest recall at the beginning of January affects certain Toyota and Lexus models, including 1.3 million in the U.S. Additionally, Ford recalled nearly 1 million vehicles to begin 2019.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also has a webpage setup solely dedicated to the Takata airbag recall, where you can check for outstanding recalls using your VIN.
