The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced the recall of the weight loss drug Belviq after it was linked to an increased risk of cancer.
According to NBC News, the agency ordered the drug to be immediately pulled from shelves. Reports indicate that the drug may be linked to lung, pancreatic and colorectal cancer.
It was reported that in one study, cancer was shown in 470 patients taking the pill for one year and the number of cancers increased with a longer duration of taking Belviq.

Eisai, Inc. is the manufacturer of Belviq, Belviq XR (lorcaserin). The FDA said it will continue to monitor clinical trial data relating to the drug. It is also asking people who have experienced side effects from the drug to report them to its MedWatch program.
